A sense of humor is critical...because they'll be spending a lot of time laughing at me (as opposed to with me
) and they MUST be intelligent. I can't tell how how my heart breaks when I see someone that I find attractive and they open their mouth only to show that there's not much that isn't already on display...

There's more, but that's a start...
That's an excellent start....I concur with all three of your paragraphs, especially the third.
Feel free to continue.....
Mom - tell me about your man? what's the secret I need to know?

Well, here's a little more (sparked by some of mom's comments)...
I agree that this elusive mystery woman and I need to have things in common. There needs to be something (or things) that we truly enjoy doing together or common topics we like to discuss. However, I think it is also essential that we not be TOO similar in our interests. Basically, we both need to have our "safe place," be it a mental or physical entity, where we can be an expert and not feel challenged by each other. Does this make sense?
Another thing...she's gotta like food. I'm not saying that she should always be eating, but she's got to like a wide variety of food (Thai, German, Italian, etc.) and be willing to experiment when it's something new. It doesn't hurt if she likes
either...
There's more...but I'm still searching for the words...
(Sorry if this is stealing your thread, mom. If someone deems to start another thread on this sort of thing I will gladly transcribe my posts there...
BTW, mom, I THINK I'll be at tacos tonight. I've got some business down here in Tacoma this morning, but should be back up in Redmond a little after lunch...)

Hey Mom....thanks for the words of wisdom...I think your view of this subject is very accurate and thoughtful. I have always been a firm believer that couples should have both common interests as well as individual ones. Same as mutual friends and vice versa.
Age too, is not a big deal...my parents were 20 yrs apart. Although personally I think that is a bit too big of a gap (ie. 2 different generations).
You're right about my not rushing into anything....I am so not ready for that quite yet, although loneliness has it's downfalls too. Regardless, I'm only 24....I know one day I'll meet "him" and hopefully "just know"...and things will fall into place.
When you met your Man...did you know right away? I've always kinda wondered that sort of thing.
What would I do without you mom??

I know this is gonna sound like I'm hitting on a certain someone (and that may partly be true), but in all seriousness she should probably like convertibles, too. I've been a convertible guy since I was first born and my mom owned a '68 Mustang convertible.
brantshali,
Don't worry about hijacking this thread. We've done this many times to Mom's threads. It's fun to see her TRY to get them back on topic.
I agree with most of the comments that you and even MOM
make and also think that men and women both need their guilt free "Cave Time" to either just relax or pursue interests. Then when they get back together, it's more intense and enjoyable. I have a cousin who's husband is very possesive and jealous. She is a teacher and has to sit in a lawn chair and grade papers so as to be with him when he mows the grass!
I also think that women listen to guys "expert" opinions on God knows what but I also think too many of us guys are dismissive of women when they have an opinon to express. Just my $0.02. Happy hijacking!
