I'm noting that I've had a couple less-than-stellar experiences with 3rd parties, which put Amazon in the middle with no real recourse. Now that I think about it, when I bought my inflatable dinosaur, I had a similar issue* where Amazon sent me a long winded excuse email without ever addressing my concerns about the seller being dishonest. After Amazon contacted them, they mysteriously found a shipment of replacement parts and were able to make me whole (so good service on their part). Or I should say they made my dinosaur work.

It was a really weird transaction.

For first party purchases Amazon has always been slam dunk helpful, though.

* The 3rd party had a restrictive but completely justified return policy - they sell costumes, people are shitty and would use the costume once and return it, so the company only allows returns for a short period, I think 7 days. I had an issue with the costume (it was missing several parts) and I didn't notice for a couple weeks, which was fine (my fault), but when I had originally contacted the company, they had filed a USPS claim for a damaged delivery, but didn't tell me that - USPS did. So I emailed Amazon pointing out the company would then have my money, USPS's money, and I would have a heap of unusable plastic that was in no way the fault of USPS. Totally dishonest.

I'm agreeing that I've never had issues with 1st party purchases through them. From here on out I'll likely skip 3rd party purchases. There's a somewhat similar Canuck site AND they give you Aeroplan miles soooo...

I'm thinking that's pretty lame, but probably the you've enjoyed and generated have been worth it.

I'm quite certain it was worth it in the end, but it was very frustrating with a defective dinosaur that couldn't deliver the lulz, knowing that the company had screwed over the USPS and me in the process.

I'm noting it's not TMI, but rather that I started laughing, then coughing, which hurt.

I'm hoping Monica feels better soon!!! There's something nasty going around here too, but oddly no one seems to have the same symptoms.
