The poor deer was taken out by another car. She didnt make it.

Basically I had just left my house for the trip to FC, it was very early in the morning with very few cars on the road. I was thinking about how someone nearly hit me the night before when I was filling up with gas (man, would that suck getting into an accident the night before FC) when the thought of deer occurred to me. It was a remote part of I-64, dark and quiet. About 3 minutes later, in the left lane (I am in the right lane of 2 lanes) I see a doe just standing there. I get very nervous wondering if she is gonna jump in front of me, but she doesn't and I pass right by at about 65mph (after slowing down considerably). I look in the mirror and see a car that was about 6 lengths back in the left lane hit the deer. I don't know how he didn't see it. Anyway, that bothered me for the next 2 hours of the trip
I'm going to rant briefly. This isn't aimed at either of you, just an observation.
I'm from WI, which has a very large whitetail deer population, and went to school in the UP of Michigan which is similar. A hot subject was always hunting (a way of life there) vs "humanitarian" treatment of animals that are hunted primarily for sport. There was always a consensus of dumbasses who felt hunting whitetail (and anything else in some cases) should be illegal. It wasn't ethical to shoot the poor deer with a gun - which, in case you didn't know, actually dies of shock from the bullet wound, and dies rather quickly and painlessly. Then, these same dumbasses would whine and cry that the deer population was out of control and people were hitting the poor deer with their cars, and that the deer were starving and risking human contact to get food and ending up sick, and so on. Yet the aforementioned dumbasses never accepted that hunting was a very effective population control. They'd rather the animals starve to death (a most unpleasant way to go) or get a human illness (equally unpleasant) than be hunted (quick and relatively painless) and eaten for food.

I'm with you on the issue of hunting, Jeff, from the standpoint of population control. I have understood the starvation issue and herd expansion since I was a young boy. Of course, I am from MI, and it is always being discussed there.
Although, I don't enjoy hunting and probably couldn't do it unless it was for my own survival. And personally, I just have a tremendous respect for animals and a pretty low concern for most humans.
And, I do find it hilarious when some of the these "tough guy" hunters think they are great for using a high powered weapon to kill a deer. That same "tough guy" would defecate on himself the first time he was shot, especially in battle or CQB. I have seen it!!
So understand that I am not saying hunting should be illegal. It is necessary. Game hunting just isn't for me.

I'm saying the reason the population is out of control is because of all the deers natural predators are extinct or on their way to being extinct.
I love animals and could never bring myself to kill one for sport. Is there a real purpose to the hunting -- yes and I respect the reason.
Maybe they could come up with a solution like build really high fences next to highways.
