NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A Maasai tribesman has been sentenced to death
by hanging in Kenya for killing his pregnant wife and eating part of her
organs, the BBC reported Thursday.
While death by hanging is extremely rare, judges in Nairobi imposed the
sentence on Lolwakenju Lengironi Wednesday and granted him two weeks to file an
appeal.
He was found with blood around his mouth beside his wife's mutilated body in
2001 in the couple's shack in a Nairobi slum area.
Prosecutors said the woman's liver was gone, as well as part of her heart.
Lengironi's defense lawyer claimed his client was both drunk and temporarily
insane at the time.
