I'm telling you that the current front-runner is an Independent Fabrication Ti Planet Cross cyclocross bike...but I'm wiling to look at other options. I know I want a Ti frame...

for mountain biking is Ti a better option than CF? I know my frame is partially CF, and from what I have been told, CF does a better job of absorbing shock than others (mainly on road bikes)

I'm not looking for a pure mountain bike. Regardless, CF is a great material for a road or mountain bike. I just want Ti, because it behaves quite a bit like steel (which I love), but with added durability.

Ultimate weight reduction isn't my highest priority. Ti is plenty light and, like steel, quite nice at softening the edges of impacts.

ah..gotcha... my buddy has a ..uh.. Jamis? ( ) I forget what it was called.. I rode on it the other day while we were drinking in his driveway..
I think down the road I'd like to get a full CF bike with Ultegra components..... lightweight and a bit more forgiving than my bike..

but that's waaay down the road..I need to replace my DD first
