I'm reminded of a quote that goes something like this: Until you've loved another animal, part of your soul has not been awakened.

I'm pretty sure I meant to type "AN animal" instead of "another animal."

I'm reminded of when I was in college and Human Resources was a new major. Prior to that, it was the part of the company where secretaries (mostly female) were "dumped" because they really couldn't be promoted from secretary to management.

I know...I know...that sounds hugely sexist...but it's the one thing that pops into my mind when people talk about female dominated fields.

Regardless of the struggles that you two have in female-dominated fields, I'm glad that your only options are secretarial or HR.

That all said, the pissing matches that occur in male-dominated fields aren't much better.

The summary (because I know many people in the Corner can't read all that well) is that human nature focuses on the individual benefits while society thrives on teamwork.

Tough to reconcile the two sometimes...
I'm definitely with you on the conflict between individual accomplishment and teamwork. It's similarly tough when boys are socialized to express their anger/aggression physically, while girls are taught not to. It creates these two dysfunctional (hate that word, but am using it anyway!) ways of dealing with stuff.

I'm finding that ing is an excellent example of an individual action that brings everybody together. . . usually into another room with fresh air.
