Bike tires are stupid expensive. $50 is actually not bad. Some of the better race tires (which are tiny) are over $100.

Hmm, so perhaps this vision of a $25 yard sale bicycle isn't realistic.

Well, you can get a bike for free if you look. Hell, you can get a car for free.


But when you have sorta specific demands for a bike, the shit gets crazy expensive.

I figure I ain't rollin' out of the shop for under $700. . . and $1000 is way more likely.
