My neighbors were bible thumping catholics. (I say were cuz their god appearently didn't pay the mortgage, so they went bankrupt and moved out). They would hold 'come to jesus' parties, completely with guitars and bongo's. Of all the people that showed up, not a single one would smile or wave back when I said hi. Time and time again, I'd get glares and ignored.
I can't speak for the majority. In my lil slice of the world, however, the more religious the person, the more antisocial and ignorant they are.
