126 miles in a day is crazy .... especially in those circumstances !!!

I thought the 40 mile ride that we did last summer was long enough ..... I could hardly stand at the end of it !!!!

I just finished a 45 mile ride today. My knees are rubber...

126 in a day is the longest I've ever ridden...and I've done it 3 times...

Agreed, James. That's some serious pedaling.

Thanks for clarifying, Brant. I'm still astonished. I've certainly never seen a setup like you described.

So, how was your ride today?

It's the first...and only...time I've seen a tandem bike like that. It basically looked like a "normal" bike with a recumbent seat and pedals mated to the front. VERY strange...

My ride today was pretty good. Conditions were about perfect (mid-to-high 50s, partly to mostly cloudy w/ sunbreaks and not TOO windy in most places).

The ride was an out and back ride on one of the local bike trails. It's called the Burke-Gilman Trail and it was the model for multi-use paved trails about 30 years ago or so. Recently repaved in places and not too crowded today.

As for my performance...not too bad considering my conditioning level (or lack of conditioning level). I think we averaged about 14.5mph, which is off my usual 16mph, but still respectable for a "cruise" ride.

The only real "downside" is that I was mentally prepared for a 30 mile ride...so the extra 15 took a bit of a toll on me. I'm wiped out and am simply gonna lye on the couch and relax...

Here's an example of what that tandem looked like...

I had a friend in England who would do 300 miles in a day .....

He was an ex-Para (British Parachute Regiment - VERY fit, heavily trained guys) but was invalided out after he broke his leg very badly .....
