That is a far better recommendation than I expected. So be it. It's on the list!

Now, let's talk about this belching fire out the exhaust.....

Avoid Fort Wayne! Actually most of the midwest would fall under the "waste of your time" category.

TJ, are you planning on a year long vacation? I'll presume you haven't been to the states before, but if you're planning on doing much traveling in the western 2/3, know that EVERYTHING is far apart. California is a 30-40 hr drive from Indiana, and it's another 15 or so to NYC. As for your list, what's the deal with Oklahoma? Oklahoma makes Indiana seem interesting! I'd consider a jaunt to Chicago or the Knoxville, TN area (great roads, nice scenery though not as dramatic as the Rockies).

Lots of good places on your list. Not clear if you're soliciting drives, sightseeing, or both. For pure drives, I'd have to include CA 1, between Cambria, CA and Monterrey. Big Sur coast is unbelievable. Just get an early start if doing it between June and Sept- as big RVs will clog the roue that time of year. Ask locals in Socal and Norcal for drives in those areas- Drive betwween Ojai and San louis Obispo is one of my faves in socal, and there are so many here in No Cal- West Ridge road in Marin County, Petaluma Pt Reyes Rd, etc. Even Ca 120 across the N part of Yosimite can be an awesome drive if you do it in late Sept, before the snowfall, but after alot of the tourists have left. Farther North, the North Cascades Hwy in Washington state is gorgeous. Going to the sun rd in Glacier NP, MT is one of the prettiest drives you'll ever take, but forget about opening up on it. ditto thye drive through Rocky Mtn, NP CO. "Million Dollar Hwy" in SW CO is a scenic winner. As for sightseeing, the Colorado plateau has so many worthy candidates that you could spend a month and still find cool stuff. I agree with Bryce, and would add Zion- both for drive (again though, only before the RVs are out in the summer), and for general sightseeing. drive to Mexican hat, UT is also a great one. That Sedona drive is pretty, but can get crowded. Lots of backroads in AZ where you can open up.

Rand McNally road atlas has a good level of detail- individual state maps with enopugh detail to see stuff (Not th epocket atlas though!)

I'm doing pretty well today. Getting ready to go on vacation later this week, so I'm kinda busy wrapping up several things for work, but so far so good...

How are things on your side of the swamp/pond/sewage treatment plant?
