Actually most of the midwest would fall under the "waste of your time" category. TJ, are you planning on a year long vacation? I'll presume you haven't been to the states before, but if you're planning on doing much traveling in the western 2/3, know that EVERYTHING is far apart. California is a 30-40 hr drive from Indiana, and it's another 15 or so to NYC. As for your list, what's the deal with Oklahoma? Oklahoma makes Indiana seem interesting! I'd consider a jaunt to Chicago or the Knoxville, TN area (great roads, nice scenery though not as dramatic as the Rockies).

Rand McNally road atlas has a good level of detail- individual state maps with enopugh detail to see stuff (Not th epocket atlas though!)
I'm doing pretty well today. Getting ready to go on vacation later this week, so I'm kinda busy wrapping up several things for work, but so far so good...
