This is a big problem in Asia as well. One of my friends had about US$ 15,000 spent on his card in the Philippines one month, and he hadn't even left Hong Kong !!!!!!!
It seemed that someone at a hotel that he had stayed in the month before while on a business trip had copied the information off his card !!!
In fact most of the credit card problems I have beard of have been non-internet related !

All of the card rip offs I've heard of are non-internet related.
I suspect mine was at an indoor gocart place but have no way of telling for sure. Just circumstances around the whole purchase of some gloves.... a little dodgy to say the least.
If true it wasn't the fault of the business... could happen anywhere so I WATCH... CAREFULLY now.

Many of the *cough* bars *cough* in Tokyo where you would be paying by credit card (
) take your card away for a good 5 minutes while sorting your bill out. Two of these bars have been implicated in so many ripoffs that American Express have taken away their right to accept their cards, and I wouldn't have thought it would be long before VISA and Mastercard do the same!!

That sucks, there was a documentary on cable about how the Chinese organized criminals (or triads or whatever) do shit like this. It's pretty creepy. It usually involves a waiter in Chinatown restaurants too, and goes all the way to (guess where?) Malaysia (among other countries - makes me so friggin proud
).
).
Oh, I left out a detail, I think the cards are actually counterfeited in Malaysia (and some surrounding countries "because of cheap labour and the relative lack of regulations").
(I think Malaysia is also where most bootlegged CDs in the region are made)
