Default tranny question...

ok so i took bigbird to dr. jon last week for an alignment (but she was to low ) valve adj and to have him check out what i thought was my clutch rattling cause when i was idling there was a rattle, i would put the clutch in it would almost stop then when i would put the car into gear it would completely stop. well jon said he thinks my tranny is going bad (i need to get more details from him). (john is jackson friend who is a mechanic who works @ acura and did all jacksons work on his car) anyway my tranny has always been very, very knotchy, jumpy and made alot of noise, and around 22mph the tranny makes a really weird rattly annoying sound. and around 12k miles i had to have 4th & 5th gear replaced by honda cause they went. jon thinks that they rebuild the tranny wrong. well i am outta warrenty now, soooo that leaves me with the questions does anyone know how much a new tranny is or how much does it cost to rebuild it. although i think that i would rather just get a new one since i have had so many issues with this one. this ****ing sucks! i tried to do a search but as usual nothing really came up so i was hoping that some of the 's had some answers, cause i really dont want to venture into s2000 talk
thanks guys!

sounds like synchros.... just a guess though....

my old RX7 used to eat synchro's for lunch... and dinner... about every 10k miles :thumbdn

He should be able to price one. I don't think acura can access honda's database, but I'm guessing he has a friend over at honda

Personally I'd go new, stop messing around with a wack tranny.

that probably doesn't help much, but it's my two bits

ya honda sucks everything starts breaking right AFTER the warrenty ends. my top latches break litterly 2 weeks after my extended warrenty was up and now my tranny is ****ed. which is probably hondas fault cause they rebuilt it wrong. and im getting wear holes in the top again after only 3 years since they replaced the top once before

Total cost for the entire job by Honda will be in and around $4k (trust me on this one).

A rebuild, depending on who does it, can range anywhere from $2200-$3400, depending on whether they can reuse your housing (yours should be fine)

The way you describe the rattle to me it sounds like a bearing failure.
