I've had a similar 5 hour cutoff but I'm sure you'd agree when i say there are also a crap load of variables that can screw with that.
- who's paying?
- how long are you staying?
- will a rental car be needed if not driving?
- how many passengers?
- is it mostly shite city drive, highway drive or a cool drive?
etc.
Certainly.
If the company was paying, I was flying. But for personal trips, I found that I could usually drive 400-600 miles for less than it cost to fly, plus have a car there (no rental needed), and not be at the mercy of airline schedules.
Of course, that was all based on living in the midwest. Since the only two destinations within my driving range are Portland (4 hours) and Vancouver (2 hours), it's mostly a moot point.
