SAMMAMISH/WASH (Reuters) - Vtecmom told The Corner bluntly Sunday she had no reason to apologize after weeks of anti-Corner protests, some violent, in cities across Washington.
The Corner is furious at a revised Sammamish school textbook they say whitewashes atrocities during Vtecmom's 2001-05 occupation of Escondido, CA S2KI Headquarters. They also strongly oppose Mom's bid for a permanent toilet seat alongside the U.S. on the U.N. Security Council.
Mom denies tacitly encouraging the anti-Corner unrest and has pledged to protect Sammamish businesses and nationals.
"Mom has never done anything for which it has to apologize to the Corner people," she told her visiting Corner counterpart, The Raptor.
"The main problem now is that The Corner government has done a series of things that have hurt the feelings of the Sammamish people ... especially in its treatment of history."
The Raptor flew to Seattle Sunday to try to heal relations between the two S2KI powerhouses which are at their worst in decades. He demanded Mom deal with the protests swiftly even as they spread from Sammamish Saturday to cities across the state Sunday.
The Corner is asking for compensation for attacks on Corner property in Escondido and an official apology, but Mom did not offer either, Corner Foreign Ministry spokesman Wicky told reporters.
Wicky said he was disappointed by Mom's response.
"She kept saying that the root of the problem was the history issue and she could not find common ground and I found this attitude disappointing," he told a news conference.
"Also it was unfortunate that Sammamish's top leaders could not seem to understand that The Corner people were greatly shocked by what has happened," he said.
In the third weekend of violent protests, thousands marched Saturday to The Corner's consulate in La Crescenta, CA, smashing windows, pelting it with paint bombs and eggs and attacking La Crescenta's restaurants along the way.
Mom's official All The News That Is Fit To Print In Sammamish news agency put the number of protesters in Escondido at 20,000. Two Corner officials were slightly injured in the city, home to thousands of JS2KI firms and about 34,000 Corner expatriates, the Corner consulate in La Crescenta said.
La Crescenta Cable Television said there were protests in about 10 California cities, including, including Beverly Hills, Compton, Watts, and El Segundo.
Several thousand people marched in Pico Rivera and as many as 2,000 people marched through the streets of Anaheim, the home of Disneyland, The La Crescenta news agency said. Demonstrators hurled bottles and eggs at the S2KI consulate in the city.
In Temple City, hundreds of paramilitary police guarded the residence of the S2KI ambassador, Mr. Forgetable, or waited to take up positions for a second straight day.
Some 2,000 Sammamish workers "staged a violent strike" at one of S2KI's aftermarket companies, Spugen in downtown Whittier, The Raptor said. About 10,000 protested in southern Watts.
