Fugazi is another favorite of mine. Always liked Ian MacKaye and his singing\yelling style both in Fugazi and previously in Minor Threat.

Fugazi got a lot more play in some crowds but I never really considered them too mainstream really. I was kind of like you and in some ways still am. I dont care if a band becomes popular and more "mainstream" so much ... but I hate when they then change their sound to become more mainstream, which is typically the case. I can in a way understand .. they make a much better living that way. But for me I like the original true sound of a band. I loved Metallica up until the Black album for example .. even though they were smack in the mainstream before that, but they still kept their original sound.

One of my favorites is Clutch. I own just about everything they have put out and saw them live in the early 90's. Whats cool is that every couple of albums, they have a song that makes mainstream radio.. yet they have stuck to their sound forever and do their own thing. One of the hardest working bands. The only downside to me is the hipster crowd now loves them and thinks they are "hipster" because of fallons beard, which he has had forever. He actually commented he had thought of shaving it off because of the whole hipster fad, but said no one would recognize him anymore without it

They have so many sounds that I will post a few from them

This one now more known because it was used in a video game:

And a clip of JP Gaster, Clutch's drummer, warming up, because I do play drums ... not anywhere in the realm of how good he can play ... but he is one of my favorite drummers just because of his cool grooves ...

I'm not sure these guys are considered mainstream in Canada - definitely in the aboriginal population I'd say they are. I've posted this in the vid thread. LOVE it.
