When I used to work out a lot I got a bump on my wrist that caused me pain when I tried to bend my wrist. I went to the doctor and the doctor’s diagnosis was what he called a gangliatic cyst. In order to get rid of it I got a series of cortisone shots in the wrist. Shots hurt like hell but the cyst went away. The doctor said if it reoccurred they would actually surgically remove the cyst. It started to come back so I just reduced the amount of weight I was lifting and the amount I worked out.

I guess it was option #2 from your doctor.
