This was so scary .... my parents were in Sri Lanka 2 weeks before this happened, they usually go there twice a year for 2-3 weeks .... they have a number of friends there since they have been holidaying in the same place for the last 6 or 7 years. They are now trying to arrange another trip out there in a couple of weeks time to take money and clothing direct to the families in the area that they stay in.

Wow, James. Glad to hear they weren't there for this!

I just arrived back in Hong Kong this morning, so am checking that none of our friends from here were in Thailand at the time .... we have stayed in a few of the places that were affected and it really brings it that much closer to home when you see the pictures and know that you have been holidaying there in the past few years ...

It is very sad for these very poor places to be devastated like this !!

All of my best thoughts for the safety of those you may know James... and those we don't.

I hope you hear good news, James.

One of my friends told me his parents were at the beach when the waves hit Penang. They are fine, but a couple of catfish found their way into the engine compartment of their car.

I donated some money through my company in early January (my company matches donations). And so far, the check hasn't even been deposited yet.
