Ever notice how words today mean something totally different than they did say 20 or 30 years ago?
Fag = Cigarette
Gay = Happy
Cool = Really meant cool (cold).
... Can you think of any others?

That's certainly not new - I don't have the etymology at hand, but across the pond they've called cigs 'fags' for years.

Martin, if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, go see the "Story" thread over here . It's a total riot... HEY, WAIT A MINUTE, we're already IN the CORNER and Martin has already participtated in the neverending Story!!!

Anyway, I couldn't help dinging you for bringing up a word as erudite as "etymology" around here.
Keep it up. We need to class up the joint a little.

Oh, and by the way, you're right about "fag." It's been a cigarette in UK for as long as I can remember. I think the "other" meaning is the newer one.

You know, James, there are more stupid little things in my confused head that I just wish I could clear away... I could honestly use the extra brain cells for things I actually need to remember. Why do vocabulary words we learned in school just sit around and take up space in our brains?
That said, English rocks! Or is that "the English" rock. Or is that "English on the rocks" (I think that's you, James)
