We were with a group of people interested in investing in land... did a bunch of snorkelling, but had only a little free time. You been there? Were based on Rooatan, but flew to Utila and Guanaja. PM me for info if interested about the islands. We really liked Roatan.

What are the best islands/ countries for snorkeling

I'm not a deepwater scuba guy, but have loved snorkeling off in the Indian Ocean (Mombassa, Kenya) and the Galapagos... would like to seek out the best areas in the Caribbean and/or Central America

Jerry,
There are many places that would be good. The best places are those with "shallower reef systems. The Caymans would be a good area that is close. The Caymans have been very judicious with their reefs. Grand Cayman would probably be the best since there are many many other things to do. Belize is also a World Heritage site, but the best reef systems are on the atolls which are a good boat ride from the better places to stay.
The leeward islands are also supposed to be good. Saint Martaan, Saba, St. Lucia are also supposed to be very good and last but not least in the Carib., are the Bahamas. Stay away from Freeport and Grand Bahama, but I have heard decent things about Bimini, Eluthera, and the Andros Is. areas.
Austrailia is great, but you need to get pretty far offshore for the best areas. Papua New Guinea is a good area, and so is Indonesia (Indonesia scares me at this time). Most of the S. Pacific is good for diving, but I not sure on snorkeling. There are even resorts on Bikini Atol .
s2kskibum was in Honduras snorkeling recently so I rtink he could give you feedback there. Costa Rica, has a great reputation. It is on our short list of places to go. The Carribean side is warm water, the Pacific, is a bit chillier.

The Red Sea is also supposed to be stunning. The water tends to be a bit cold, and it is in the middle east.

Hope that helps
