anyone know what it is? and also couldn't you just swiss cheese it and then add weight back to the car in specific places to improve balance? dunno just an idea

You can but the only thing that could really make a difference (I'm assuming he is already balanced well) would be to hole and bevel metal parts that are above the center of gravity and then add the weight back into a lower center of gravity (possibly through welded braces ala opera).

However this isn't quite as easy on an s2000 since we don't have a roof and there-for don't have all that extra useless metal attached to it (a-pillars and what-not have alot of extra metal).

Best possible outcome I could see from this would be to hole the inner part of the doors and weld some extra bracing inbetween the wheel well and door for better stiffness up front. But then of course the suspension would have to be re-tuned to give the handling characteristics that jfo is looking for. And we're talking about moving only a few pounds lower, while giving marginally better stiffness.

So in conclusion, yes it could possibly help but would have to be done in the off season (as to not mess up the handling between races) and would have unknown effects (unless someone is good at preparing chasis to this extent and have ways of finding the areas of the car that flex the most). Alot of work for something with little positive gain, and possibly even negative gains that would need to be fixed.

Here are some pictures I just dug up from a track day John and I did at Nelson Ledges back in 2005. For those familiar with JFO's race car check out how clean the car was back then.

Man, you've always been a fan of those 17" huh?

Andy........................uh, I hate to break it to you but that bumper has been sprayed with spray paint more times than I can remember. I went into a tire wall at Mid-Ohio--2 rows deep and bounced back about 10 feet. There were a few small taps front to back with a few cars--they were too slow in the middle of the turn. Someone turned into me and took the paint off the side. It is still on the car though and looks good 30 feet away! Your bumper has been in Honda Tuning and Grassroots Motorsports.

Tom..............I think that was one of the first performance mods---more rubber on the ground.

I don't quite understand the rules of the ballast weight. They say there is a limit of 200 lbs and that it can only be added to the passenger sitting area, blah blah blah.

My question is what do they consider added weight other than ballast? For example if you reinforce the chassis by welding in some additional supports through out, then does that metal count as part of the added weight, thereby making it illegal? Is the chassis modification limited to removal of weight?
