Have you checked the mesh screen filter in the vtec solenoid? Its a pian to get at . Check the helms. If clogged it prevents oil flow and engagment. Are you sure you had three bars on the temp?

I was OUT tonight

Any CEL?
What type of oil filter are you running?

-Cloged screen is possible, but very unlikely.

No CEL, just the Maint Req, which I need to reset.

Oil is Mobil 1, 10-30. Been running M-1 is since the first oil change which was at ~1200 miles (Early 2000) Yeah I know all about leaving the factory oil in, at the time no one knew, but it's not been an issue.

The current oil was put in at Fall Colors (by the Ganley guys) and has about 600 miles on it. It's not discolored. The only other thing is that I had the trans and dif fluids changed right before I put it away, but for the life of me I can't see how that could be an issue.

I have whacked the MAP sensor, but I understand that Honda has issued a TSB on the MAP sensor. Should I remove it and tap it on the ground?

Freq, I believe that you are right that the issue should be something simple, but it's really diconcerting when something bizarre happens. I have owned ~15 Honda cars over the years, all bought new and have never had a problem other than maintainance (and water pumps on the early guys), so this is very annoying.

Tim, Thanks, yep had three bars. I had actually driven the car for about 20 min. before I hit the highway and proceeded with my patented "merge past the other cars" entry, only to discover that there was no reserve.

I have a helms, I can check it, it's just oil is usually never in the car more than ~2K miles, and almost always comes out the same color it went in.

What do you mean by no vtec? How had a problem last year where I was able to get to 9000 rpm but "i didn't have vtec". Basically one of my spark plugs was loose/bad. As soon as the egine hit vtec the spark plug would come lose.

May not be your problem but if it is

I'll take a look at it. I had the Spark Plug recall done about 1 1/2 years ago, and it has not been an issue.

The engine will rev to at leat 7500-8000. I didn't push it read line, it just doesn't seem to change lobes.

Do you hit an early fuel cut rev limiter when the car is fully warmed too?
