Default map whack?

lately when going WOT in at least 1st and 2nd, right around 7k my car seems to have issues with smooth acceleration, it kind of hesitates , then resumes vtec/going fast, if that makes any sense.

i looked this up in the UTH section and it sounds like its a MAP sensor issue? and the solution is to smack it a bit with a screwdriver?

anyone ever had this happen?

This was an issue with the earlier cars, I can't remember if there was a TSB, but there might be. The early fix was remove the sensor whack it on the ground and reinstall. Seemed to work for most.

Matt-

I had it for the first time a few weeks ago. As instructed by Bill-

Keep the car running, using the throttle cable/tensioner, just bring the revs up a little bit and tap the sensor a few times with a screwdriver handle (or similar).

Solved it for me.

Sounds better than the old way.

It's good to know in this day and age of electronically controlled cars, we can still fix things with a hammer.

I had an issue with black smoke on v-tec ever since new. Then I imagined the rig was starting and running a little rough.

I searched this amazing site and found that someone put a thin (1/8" or so) plastic cable tie (Ty-Wrap) around the O2 sensor plug to hold it together. It is mounted on top of the front end of the aluminum intake pipe on the engine (right after the black hose from the air filter housing).

The cable-tie has to be around the plug so it will pull the male/female parts together. Essentially around from front to back in the middle. Mine is mounted horizontally.

The plug's normal latches do not hold it tight and after you do this you will see the latch strikes have a gap where the plug is tighter.

This ended the smoking effect and it feels that the car runs quite a bit better.

If you search for rough idle you might find a photo.

This may do the trick for you.

Correct concept incorrect terminology. The sensor you refer to as the o2 sensor is actually the map sensor or the manifold absolute pressure sensor.
