do any of you guys know a good mechanic that will put in my 4.57 ring and pinion, and won't over charge me?
any input will be GREATLY appriciated.

 

Yup...Harry @ Keenan Honda in Doylestown. He just did my 4.77 set about two weeks ago. I'm not going to say it was cheap but you get what you pay for. Honda warranty time to do a stock diff is 4.5 hours. Typically a cash job is at least one and a half times more. He charged me 6 hours which came to about $560.00. If he does it he wont let it go untill it's right. Small price to pay for a little piece of mind.

 

$560 is a little steep. I've heard that most people get it done anywhere from 165-300. but the honda dealerships do charge more. it is good that he does a good job, but i don't want to spend that much. i know whatcha mean "ya get what ya pay for", but it can't be that expensive to get them put in right.

SuzukaTim in this club is a tech at Scott Honda on Rte 202 near West Chester. I haven't seen him post here lately and don't know if he has done gear upgrades, but he seems pretty knowledgable

there has to be more than that!!! thanx to the guys that have already posted....
i called Sutton Speed Shop, and they said they would do the job for 250-300.....but, they have not worked on an s2000 before. I would like to find a mechanic that has some experience w/ the car, but like i said....$560 sounds a little steep.

 

I would go with the expert mechanic who is trained on Hondas, but that is just me. I would not want an inexperienced mechanic who has never pressed the start button working on my baby!

 

I would love to help but I just don't want to get into something that's a little over my head. I would feel really bad if I tried to feel my way through it and messed up the clearences or something. Where as on my car, if I mess up, I learn from my mistake and get it covered under warranty. A thousand apologizes.

If you can live with out the car for a while, and can pull the pumkin out yourself as I did , I know an installer that will do the Ring & Pinion install for Less than $200. That is if you want to drive it out to PA or ship it. Mine has been good so far, for 4k miles or so and several clutch dumps. Yes, It's the stock housing, I know someday I will blow the Bearing caps off
