Default New to Area

Hi all!

I'm new to the area (mainline/KOP area). Coming from the Carolinas. As I have never lived here before, I was curious if anyone had some recommendations for where they get their cars maintained? Car is basically stock. Also, any meets/cars and coffee things that go on out this way??

Thanks!

Welcome, I moved here from Charlotte 12 years ago. Where were you in NC?
Young's auto service. that's our go to guy around here. An S2000 owner and supporter of the community

1415 Haines St, Philadelphia, PA 19126
215) 782-8588

Twice a year we have the legendary Billman250 service meet.

There are four big cars and coffee style meets...west Chester pa, Bethlehem pa, cherry hill nj, and doylestown pa (bucks county exotics). Web search and you will find details to each.

We have a meet to the simeone museum (near Philly airport) on June 16....best car collection in the USA. Come join us.

Thanks for all the info! We moved up from Winston Salem. I worked in north Charlotte for a while (commuted from WS...no fun). I will be looking up those Cars & Coffee's and Young's shop. Thank you for the invite to the meet on the 16th but I have a prior work engagement. Wish I could be there. Is there a calendar on here or Facebook where you guys post that sort of stuff?

Facebook? Please, no.

There is such a wealth of information here, it's a 15 year database of S2000 knowledge. I still don't understand the mass exodus to facebook for the S2000.

Anyway, Billman250 visits the 18067 twice yearly for the last 3 years. Usually March and October. He stays here for 4 days and we eat and drink, wrench and drive go-karts.

Ha- I don't trust much of the "car knowledge" found on Facebook. I'll always come here or consult the shop manual first. I just meant for event planning purposes since I know I check Facebook more often than here. I have been able to get parts/tools pretty quick on Facebook classified ads though (spring compressor tool specific to our engine, ap1 wheels, soft top material). Anyways, off topic. Thanks for the info. I will be sure to check in this part of the forum regularly and try to make it out to one of the events!

I second Young. He's our go to local guy and I miss him dearly. Billman is great, but Young has a professional shop and kids mouth's he has to feed. Plus his prices are very reasonable.

Bill has a professional shop. Bill travels to my place as a service to the community for those who don't want to take the drive out to Long Island. Not to mention the chance to meet other S owners while at my place. I'll leave the kids out of it.

Bill's prices aren't reasonable? I'd bet Bill works on more S2000's in a week than Young's does in a month.

Anyway, I think your vote for Young's would have been fine w/o the comparison.

Billman lives in the Hamptons. The OP is looking for a local guy, that's why I compared Them both. If he wants to spend 100 bucks and a whole day out at Billmans, that would not make him reasonable. Also, I wonder why you never recommend Young since he lives in the Del-Val. You always bring up Billman, why not both? Young can do everything Billman does.

I agree that Billman is Mr.S2000 but he's not our local guy to go to. Dozens of Del-Val guys have been to both Billman and Young. The ones that went to both recommend Young. Have you ever had Young service your car? Probably not.

Bill is local when he's at my place (I still live in 18067). Bill has come here twice a year for the past 3 years. I never said OP should drive to the Hamptons. OP driving to my house for any of Bill's services, or just to hang out, is $15 tops for gas and tolls but I'll be sure to feed him. When Bill visits my place there is a social aspect to it as well, it's a small meet everyday. Unfortunatley, the day you came for Bill's services was a weekday and you (and your wife) were the only ones scheduled during that time frame.

I've never been to Young's shop, never met him at a meet, I'm not even sure he has a profile on S2KI. Therefore, I have no comment on his work, his mechanical abilities, his prices or even how he dresses.

One other person has worked on my car, Bill replaced 3rd gear in my car only after I dropped the transmission for him.

OP, Young's has had some great feedback on here, I personally have never used his services. It's an hour drive for me to get to Philly and I tend to do my own work.

Bill charges double what Young charges. Young puts your car on a lift, Billman is on his back on your garage floor.

Joe, you need to back off on this one. The Del-Val guys all agree, Young is the guy to go to, except for you. You're doing the del-Val dirty by pushing Billman all the time because he goes up to your house that's over an 1 1/2 hours away from most of us in Philly.

Lastly, since it's only an hour for you, why didn't I ever see you at s Philly meet? Ever? Seriously.

I think the community would like you to start recommending Young for local work. If we need Billman, we all know about your special meets up in the middle of nowhere. Thanks. I'm trying not to get too offensive but I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Lastly, let me add this. Young is on s2ki. Only issue is, he's the sole provider of his wife and 3 kids. Plus he runs a pretty big shop that has 8 lifts. His life is dedicated to his business and family. He does not have time to shamelessly promote himself on the forums, we can do that for him.
