Just wanted to share some pics from this past weekend. Was out in Pittsburgh visiting family. Had a chance to watch some PeeWee football, the Mets game, and a girls soccer game.
Here's some samples. They are all resized, but untouced.
PNC Park from upstairs behind home plate:
Some Mets pitcher. This shot was taken from left field, 2 sections from the end of the seating, and about 10 rows from the top.
Not broken. I have a similar one with a Pirates pitcher. It is amazing how they can do that - I guess its where they get the speed on their pitch?
The camera does a lot of it, but not all. I could never get a focused shot without autofocus. I spent a lot of time at the games working on timing, and trying to get good composition. Understanding what 'should' happen and knowing the sport helps. I was fine following the football and baseball games, but seemed lost at the soccer game - just too erratic to follow.
I think its also somewhat luck? I happen to have a pic with one of the Mets getting hit by the pitch. In the pic, the ball is actually at the batter's arm, another, just as its entering the catcher's glove, with a puff of chalk or rosin visible. Again - luck - a split, and I meal split second early or later, its just the batter swinging at nothing.
The football pic is:
70-200 2.8 AF-S VR lens and a 1.7x teleconverter.
f4.8 1/400th at 340 mm.
The field is the kit 18-70 lens.
f3.5 1/320th at 18mm. ISO moved to 800 or 1000 even - not sure.
The pic of th epitcher is the same as the first lens
f4.8 1/200th at 340mm, ISO also at 800 or 1000.
As for the facemask. I was suprised - there was 3 or 4 of them in the game. Some of the kids just reach out and grab whatever they can. I have one pic where the the running back and the tackler each hvae a facemask.
