Road Rally?
After the LWG run Sunday, the topic of a road rally came up. Well, I did some research, and found a few websites. The most informative of the group was: http://www.mcnj.org/ which is centered around NW NJ.
They apparently do several a year, with the last of 2003 happening on December 7. That one looks like a charity event as well. I've emailed the director of the group to get information.
For a general site, check out: http://www.goss.com/rally.htm There is a rally finder (which I used to find the above), and links to sites, clubs, etc...

Hi Mike.
I think this is two fold.
For some people, its a different way to have fun in the car withouth the aggressive nature of some of drives.
For others, it may be a different type of competition, vs. track or autoX that still involved driving and cars.
Either way, its informative. People who want to participate can find out more info on rallys, or if you guys did set something up, could be a little different pace for a meet.

I'll talk to Scott later this week and work something out. I don't think we will be doing this for charity though. I would like to keep all costs to $5 or less per car this way we can cover any costs of the set up and keep people happy with the low cost. Doing it for charity is a nice idea but too much hassle and then you have to find a charity that doesn't squander money, charge people more to attend, and further inconviences. Let's try to get one off with no problems first. If it works well then maybe we can consider gimmicks, sponsors, and good will.

I agree with Paul. Lets see if we can do one for fun that isn't too big and figure it all out first. Then we can see if doing something bigger is worthwhile.
Maybe a little more than $5 would give us a chance to at least have a little prize for the winners, and cover any/all costs to the organizers.
I think the other rallys out there will give people a chance to see if they want to participate. I'd hate for Paul and others to put a whole thing together, and only 5 people show.

Gary and Paul,
I am interested. I thought there would be a compicated timing/scoring system so it might be better to run in someone else's first. That would tell us what we need to run one of our own. Plus I agree with you Gary that our first one should be very simple, start slow. At lunch last Sunday it sounded like the STI guys wanted to do this did anyone get their email?

Hi Gary -- I like the idea of a road rally -- BUT a poker run is much easier and less stressful (imho) .....
likewise a scavenger hunt -- where a course is laid out and one follows directions to get through it looking for visual clues (this is what one is scavenging for) along the way is also a blast.
