Default Time for new Head Unit

So after I popped the big question to my lady this Sunday (she said yes ), she has decided to get me a present. I told her I could use a new head unit so here we are.

Right now I am fully stock and it stinks. The Fit has a better sound systems than the beloved S.

Here is what I am looking to do:

- iPod capability
- XM
- HD radio would be nice
- Will get Modifry DCI
- Don't really need a CD at all
- Bluetooth would be cool, but would it work top down???

Eventually, somewhere down the road, I will replace all the speakers to run components powered by an amp, possibly get a small sub.

My goal now is to get better sound quality, hook up my iPod and get XM/HD or both.

Anybody have any input before I got call up crutchfield

first, congrats!

second, i think i was showing you at the rest stop (there were a few ppl standing there) the pioneer one that i got with the pink AUX cord Donald actually has almost the same exact one . . . Pioneer DEH 5000UB or something like that.

i also got infinity 6022i speakers and the wiring harnesses. in total it was ~210 from amazon.

I have iPod hookup, aux hookup and its satellite ready (but i dont use satellite). the IPod hook up is great becuase you can switch between controlling it thru the head unit or thru the ipod , and it charges at the same time. I didnt get the Modifry thing bc i dont care about using the side buttons.
Also has bluetooth i think but idk how to hook it up, all i wanted was better sound quality from my ipod

also, id recommend the Modifry Dash Bracket, its awesome and so easy to install

Lots of head units that fit the bill really.... I think it'll come down to ease of installation and aesthetic prefs.

Thanks guys. Yea, I saw your at the Sunoco. Looked nice.

Yea, I pretty much see that I can get all of this fun stuff for like $300-$400. Just want to cover all my bases with one purchase. Don't want to scrimp on anything and it has ben a while since I bought a head unit.

Just FYI, I believe the bluetooth unit for the deh p5000 is around $200. what a rip. =P

I'm not sure, but I think xm hookeup is also another couple hundred on top of just the head unit. If you want a radio that does xm, you'll be looking at one of the high end 400-500 units I think. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

just bought an alpine last night open box at best buy for $230, had bluetooth, HD radio and ipod control. went to install the modifry DCI that came a few days ago, and there was no DCI in the box... just my harness...

so yeah i sent him an email last night, hopefully he is a good guy and sends me another one. but that alpine usually runs $300, forget the name of it though since i just got it. if you tune it right, the stock speakers sound much better, almost like you have subs, although nothing will beat a set of components. if you get an alpine, modifry makes pnp harnesses, mine works great, it took me 15 minutes to get my new HU in, just no dash controls for now until modifry gets ahold of me.

I don't buy or recommend Pioneer decks anymore. They're extremely fragile and it's easy to end up with a ton of noise due to the way they ground. If you blow the pico fuse it's electronics surgery time! Their USB/ipod interface is also pretty so-so, and I don't think the 800prs(their top of the line) sounds all that great for the price. Alpine has the best ipod interface but they're the most expensive mainstream units.

I just bought another clarion for $130:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012NEZ8C
24-bit DAC, clean sound, Time-alignment, built in crossover network. You can't touch those features for under $300 elsewhere. You can change the colors on the face to match the dash lighting too. These are going to be sold out relatively soon. They're last years' models.

I previously had the dxz585usb with the USB on the front in my S2000 with a Cadence amp and Phoenix Gold RSd's. It was pretty nice for <$400 with install gear/wiring etc.

If you don't go Clarion, the Alpine digital-only series are really nice and shallow so it's easy to fit in the S.
