Default Wanted, large open parking lots

Hey Folks, during the autocross offseason ( SCCA AutoX ) we are always on the lookout for new sites to hold events at. For the Northern New Jersey Region of the SCCA our standard lot is in Englishtown @ Raceway Park. The South Jersey and Philly Region use the lot on the waterfront in Camden. Other clubs in the area run in the parking lots @ Giants Stadium and Nassua Collessium.

With more and more people taking interest in the sport we need to find some more locations.

So I'm sending this out to my fellow S2K owners in the Del Valley metro area. ( I'm also cross posting this in the NY Metro forum )

Does anyone know of any large open parking lots that go mostly unused on the weekends? Perhaps you drive by one on your daily commute or know of one near where you work or live.

Some likely locations are large parking lots in industrial areas or surrounding corporate campuses. Airfields and Military basis have been available to us in the past but since 911 they have, for the most part, been off limits.

The SCCA chapter pays to rent the location and carries its own insurance policy.

If anyone knows of any location please drop me an e-mail or feel free to post here in this thread.

Thanks -- Tom

On rt 130 just south of the Burlington Bristol bridge there is a very large abandoned strip mall with a very large parking lot. Everytime I pass the place I think hmmmm autocross??? But of course my dominant lazy gene kicks in and I forget about the place. Maybe I'll go by one day and take pics, but someone should contact the township and see if it can be used. If we're lucky it could be privately owned and in desperation for money they might jump on the idea!!

Paul,

What about the college? They have several events a year there. Are the lots clear, or full of trees and curbs or lights?

It's pretty easy to get to, right off the highway.

haha very funny Gary. The people here are soooo uptight, I would be afraid to ask. Plus the lots suck here, curbs, trees, light poles, and other bad stuff.
