Default Windows 7 Beta

Installed windows 7 and been using it all night.

so far so good. Everything is smooth. It's still beta. but I could only anticipate much better product when they release it.

I haven't not use this beta for any production work yet. I will install some adobe products and see how widows 7 handles them.

Looks like M$ is really coming back strong with this windows 7.

yeah and from the initial testing i have done its what vista should have been,

there are still a few key features that are missing from both like a new file system,

i doubt that i will see a full roll out at work for another 4-5 years as the software support wont be there.

Vista was a mistake and they shouldn't have released it. I love the MAC commercial when their trashing vista with money spent on vista, money spent on advertising.

*anything* is better than vista. i make faces anytime i have to use a friends machine that has it. do you know if windows 7 finally has a real security layer between the kernel and the OS or is it the same as the user account protection that vista has that can't differentiate between a program that is safe and one that wants to modify core-OS files? my main gripe with vista - besides its love of using lots of memory - is the stupid user account protection that is constantly popping up when i launch a program or open a control panel, etc.

i'm a mac guy myself, but i do have a virtual XP machine on my mac for the times that i have no mac version of a program. unless MS starts addressing these concerns they will continue to lose market share to linux and OS X. and they better damn well make sure they dot every i and cross every t before unleashing it into the marketplace. people are still pissed about the vista-ready PC fiasco, not to mention the supremely crappy lack of drivers for everything from graphics cards to printers. there are 3rd party manufacturers out there who have yet to have fully-compatible vista drivers.

MS is going to have to do a LOT of PR work this time around and if i were them, i'd avoid any more commercials involving seinfeld.

I've been running windows7 on my second machine. already it is faster for just about everything compared to vista and xp. MS said they were focusing on performance first, and it does really show.

They also give you more options on the UAC now. You could choose how often those warning msg will show during your operation.

i guess they still haven't created a true security layer then. that type of security is like hiding your pr0n in a shoebox under the bed when you were a kid. easy for someone that you don't want finding it to find it and get into. the unix/linux/OS X security layer is like putting it in a safe with a combo lock - your account password. they can see the safe and are pretty sure what's in there, but they can't access it or change things without the password. having to click 'continue' or 'OK' isn't really security unless it requires true user authentication.

on a positive note, i'm glad it's much faster - when i get my hands on a copy, i'll create a new virtual machine on my mac and give it a test spin for a while.

I was not able to install a copy on my MBP using parallels. When it tries to start the installation after the cd loads. it gives me an error of " something Firmware not capable". If you could install it on mac. Please let me know how.
