Yes I thought I would earn points with the wife for getting a movie that was not filled with explosions.

Yeah, it was up for best picture.

Yes, when a movie has the "get it" folks and the "I don't get it" people, I am usually on the I get it side.

Yes my friend who thinks he is Mr. Macho said "Rent it. I LOVE that movie."

But I don't get it. Neither did my wife. We both thought it was boring, and seriously overrated. We saw the Ebert and Roper where both reviews said it was lost and boring and they were right.

I can even be a sucker for a big sappy payoff, but this one was weak. It starts off interesting, but then wanders aimlessly (like this review) until the end. The best thing about it is the cinematography but that does not make it worth the viewing.

Save your $4 and two hours.

 

i agree. very slow, some interesting cinematography (of keira knightley).
i wouldn't rent it.
