I felt the movie was good and a worthwhile see, reminded me a lot of Forrest Gump and Big Fish, be not as good as either in my opinion, I give it a solid B

I really liked it. It reminded me of Big Fish too!

All of the lightning strike scenes were filmed on my friends 200+ acre property. I also recognized most of the other locations, as most of the movie was filmed here in the New Orleans area.

Just got home from watching it and I enjoyed it. I agree about the similarities to Gump and Big Fish, but it had enough to really stand seperate from those two, and the story was unusual, but it worked well. I think the movie would have more impact on a slightly older audience than someone like me in their 20's.

I'm a big fan of David Fincher and while I dont think this beats Fight Club, I do think it deserves some awards this season. . .not best picture though.

This movie seems to get really good reviews. My wife wants to go see it and I think we are going to go tomorrow evening (Monday). I'm just curious... without giving away the plot, can you describe how they explain the story. Or let me ask it differently: Is it realistic/believable? How much is it a SciFi?

I like a good drama, but if it takes a lot of SciFi imagination to follow the story, I'm worried I will not like the movie.

Also, did it seem long?

Thanks!

it was long but didn't feel like it, only at maybe 1 or 2 points.

It is very much a love story, similar to Forrest Gump in that way. Honestly it's not really that scifi. It presents itself as very believable. Basically tracking his life from the time he is born on.

No SciFi whatsoever. It is a fantasy/epic love story. It doesn't sound like it would be good, but I really liked it. I never once found my attention wandering, etc... it also didn't seem like 2 hours 45 minutes.

Thanks. I asked because it doesn't sound good... but everybody says it is. I was asking about the scifi from the whole aging perspective... maybe they don't even attempt to explain it... but I would think the only way to "make it work" would be to have some sort of Sci-Fi twist to it. All I wanted was for someone to say "It presents itself as very believable" like iwantyourcar said.

... Now my wife is saying she doesn't want to leave our kids with the baby sitter for that long (this is a new sitter) Arghhhh Women! a few hours ago she really wanted to see the movie... and now I really want to see it. haha

It doesn't "present itself as very believable" in the sense that his aging is explained in a simple way. In fact, it isn't explained at all. It is presented as believable in the sense that any semblance of an explanation is ignored, so you are forced to accept it and focus on other aspects of the story. Believable probably isn't the right word.

It was great. Me and my gf went to see the Spirit, then thought it sucked and left it after 15 minutes and went into the BB showing, and stayed. She cried at the end haha.
