You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wonders. . .

The big Lebowski is my top 5 favorite movie of all time. The 1st time I watched it , i was like, wtf was all the hype about?. but you have to pay attention to all of the symbolism. Just pay....atention. I wont explain it. OK maybe just 1.... the Rug. Its just not a "RUG".
So, I'm not going to try be a carpetpisser here or nothin'. . . but if you read I'm a Lebowski, You're a Lebowski you come to know that the rug was a running joke at a BBQ that the Cohens attended some years back.

There was this guy (who became the basis for Walter, btw), who kept telling this story, and the punchline as this long story (better part of the afternoon, IIRC) rolls along was, "the rug, it really tied the room together." So, Cohens, when wanting to write the movie, made the rug gag a centerpiece.

Now, I will confess that at various stages of viewing, you do start "understanding" the movie more. Almost everyone I know that's gotten to 40-50 viewings has had some massive eye-opening experience. However, most of the revelations turn out to be nothing new, or that inventive. . .

I just got The Year's Work In Lebowski Studies. I haven't cracked it open, but I'll let you know what's shakin'.

"You are outta your league Donny!"

My Girlfriend saw it and fell asleep.....either you get it or not....i love this film...laugh every time i see it...well written, cast, directed and it just flows...so many classic moments and characters...jesus...the nilists....bunny lebowski....the assistant...it just goes on and on...

surely it helps if you once or currently partook in the smoke....or know folks who enjoy.

This is a film of characters....the lone stranger played by sam elliot....it just goes on and on...the dialogue is just plain funny/rich....

like a rich dessert either you can appreciate it and not, a fine meal or a singl malt....or even good buds....i cannot explain other than to say that i love film, most all film is worth a look to see what the staff who made it wants you to "get"....message if you will....the message here is fun for the audience, laughing with the characters and at them...it is the Cohn brothers, that really says it all....in my top ten of all time, perhaps closer to #1 that I care to admit.

The actual facts of the story mock a (Marlowe or Spade)detective story at best, but are mostly irrelevant to the enjoyment of the experience....and i see it at least once a year.

Had to pull an all nighter at work, which usually involves me waiting around for someone to make a decision for hours so I streamed in the office at about three am two nights ago. It never gets old.

What made it better is that I know a guy who is exactly like Walter.
