As I reread my post, I thought maybe the movie could also be seen as a metaphor for the plight of the Palestinians.

I saw I liked but thought a bit over hyped.

It does paint a picture of squalor and oppression yeah. But I guess I could just tell what was going to happen from the very beginning.

SPOILERS********* DO NOT READ IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW DETAILS

You KNOW what the misting in his face is going to do to him right from the second it happens. You know in the end he is going to help the escape. You know there will be a big action sequence at the end.

But it takes a really long time to get there. My wife and friend who came along both thought it was boring.

I like the attempt at taking on serius issues through science fiction, and it was done well, I just think the fact that it was a short subject drawn out into two hours showed.

The most creative thing for me was the introduction of the nigerian gangs to muddle up the story and show why it is so difficult to clean up a ghetto, or corrupt country when there are always people willing to step in with organized exploitation.

But other than that it was a story that has been told before. It was told well, but I don't want to make it out to be an academy award winner.

^I think that your points are valid. What I liked about the movie is that it's essentially a small movie, produced with not a lot of money relatively speaking. What's refreshing is that the movie was about plot, story, character, theme...not just special effects and computer generated images.

Saw it this weekend, and thought it was really good. Outstanding and well-integrated special effects. I would love for there to be a sequel, but how often do they make sequels for low-budget, under-the-radar films like this? In any case,

Not what I expected, but enjoyed it nonetheless. I hope there is a "D-10"
I didn't know what to expect but I loved the flick. Some of the best special fx I've seen. Seems like there will be another one.

saw it twice friday and sunday.

I agree with the point about empathy for the aliens. the once scene where they put one in front of the firing range was one of the only times i wanted to close my eyes in a movie. god knows how many people i've seen die on a movie screen but why was that the hardest one to watch? it was also interesting to see Wikus, claimed to be "not strong" be the "hero" of the movie. kind of makes him more accessible than putting ahnold or an action star in the lead role.

just my thoughts. but over all i recommend it

also idk if anyone mentioned it or not, but check out "alive in joburg". its a "made for youtube" short that was made by the guy who did the movie. its a preface to this movie and was the reason District 9 was made.
