Default The Day the Earth Stood Still

Didn't watch the original so not sure what to expect. It was Movie Friday at my work so watched it at matinee price. Overall not bad and quite entertaining. Acting was so so and some of the lines were cheesy. I'm a sci fi fan so liked it. 7 out of 10. Keanu likes wearing suits and thought he was going to do kung fu in this one ala matrix but deferred to use his jedi/vulcan powers instead

Lol @ the Kathy Bates comment. Yah, I feel about the same for the whole movie. It was intriguing at least, but it definitely wasn't great nor bad. I'm kind of tired how so many movies with "a message" define the human race as being so destructive. So-so predictable ending, but really cool ideas for everything that happened. I laughed a good bit when Jaden Smith was playing WoW at the beginning :-P.

We saw it at the IMAX and it was okay. Definitely a movie that's better to see on the big screen with all of the action. I think if you go into the movie remembering it's a cliche plot, then maybe you lower your expectations a bit. I thought Keanu was good, if only because he only does well when he plays characters who aren't fully human. It was that same monotone, robotic voice we've seen so many times before - he's really got that down.

I don't fault a movie for having a message. If more people got to thinking about overpopulation and the effects of climate control, I wouldn't mind in the least. But I agree with you that the message of this movie isn't likely to come across to too many people.

ever notice that most films now are either remakes or sequels? this is a film that did not need to be remade..it was perfect as is, music, special effects, message/writing, well cast fo the timexd, etc...

Seriously, it was painful.

I think the movie focused a lot on the wrong aspects of the story. It could have (should have) been much better. And the sfx were pretty MEH..

I'm not a big fan of movies with a message, but that said.. the original is almost 57 years old. Watch it.. we've learned nothing.

The threat to the planet is entirely different in the remake.

I always thought the Keanu did good in Point Break and Speed... maybe I'm missing something?... lol.
