I don't know why Hollywood even bothers to buy the rights to novels. 19/20 they hire some screenwriter to turn the novel into a movie and he ends up writing a completely different story about completely different characters. Why didn't they just hire him to write that story in the first place?

Basically, movie producers are cowards. They are afraid to trust any stories that don't fit into their pre-existing molds for what movies should be.
