Default OPPENHEIMER...everything else...is fluff.

I haven't posted much on movies recently as its summer and its too nice out. But, I digress.

We saw OPPENHEIMER, Nolan's most recent movie yesterday. I really enjoy his pictures- he's up there with Villeneuve and Mendez, amongst others.
At very nearly three hours long, your bladder may not make it, although I thought it flew by and was just about right on time. It tells a dramatic story about a topic (the race to understand the potential of splitting the atom) I really didn't know much about, or think about- at least not since the 70's and 80's when I was in grade school. It was incredibly well acted with many, many well known actors playing key roles.

The development of man's most destructive weapon drew me in by Nolan's engaging story telling...and yes, everything else out in mainstream theatrical release is fluffy, mindless shit- absolute drivel in comparison. And that's fine since movies need to take us away sometimes. This realization of the prime meaning of this movie came in the final 5 minutes. This particular movie made me stop short and realize the massive potential we have to finish the world as we know it. If one egotistical maniac has this power...All the bullshit the media tries to tell us is important hold nothing in comparison to the absolute destructive power of nuclear winter- stick that in your exhaust pipe and smoke it.

Don't expect action. Expect building tension and terror told out of chronological sequence- that's what made this movie work. This is classic Christopher Nolan and expect accolades during awards season.

I give this picture a 9/10- I loved it. It is not for kids under 15 since there is nudity and some graphic sex.

This was a good movie. Impressively it was not preachy. Rather it tried to be historically accurate and let you the audience decide for yourself what was right and wrong.

A tour de force cinematically, only bested by Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Coppola, Scorsese, etc.. The characters at times come off a little two-dimensional, but I wonder if it's a relative trick of dialogue to add depth (by relative margin moving) to Oppenheimer.
