After watching the Movie serentiy last year I decided to get the 1 season of Firefly on DVD and...

Holy smokes why was that cancelled? I know there is a rabid following of this show and I never caught on until I saw the movie.

I must admit the style of writing and the way it is delivered was odd to get used to at first. I found the first viewing of the film hard to get used to for the first 10 or so minutes. After that, it was smooth sailing.

That show is smart and funny and the cast is outstanding...way did it fail on Sci-fi or whatever channel it originally ran on??

Sorry for being so behind the times but I was really taken back by how good it was.

<----sad that more Firefly does not exist

I know, it's an awesome show, and very very sad it never went anywhere.

Part of the issue, from what I understand, is that the management presented the show in a very bad light. "Train Job" for example was the very first episode aired - they wanted something action oriented, never mind that it was out of order and actually one of the shows weaker episodes. I think they also showed it in awkward time slots, and gave it very little promotion.

Watched from beginning to end on the DVDs, as they were intended to be seen, it's simply an awesome show. And it's very re-watchable, too!

<--not afraid to admit that I would have married Saffron in a heart beat too she has some very appealing attributes :wink wink:

showing that series in any other order other than what is presented on the DVD would have been disasterous.

The show looks to have been too smart for industry execs or at least not marketable enough for the exec's tastes.

did you notice that this whole series based in outer space with many many planets has not one alien in it. They even make reference to it in one of the episodes..."Come see the real proof of alien life" turns out to be an upside down cow fetus very cool aspect of the show IMHO...all this space exploration and not one alien.

Yup, it's a western set in space, about the human condition with plenty of humor and action thrown in. Being in a sci-fi setting grants the flexibility to explore themes you just don't get in to often in "real life."

Series>Movie by far

the assasin in the movie was an excellent character though

sad to see so much storyline drawn to a close so quickly in the movie...all that Miranda and Pax stuff could have lasted 4-5 seasons

reavers would have been fun to explore for a while too...kind of like the borg

This is one of the biggest blunders Fox has ever done. The movie is only in existence because of the rabidity of the fans. There were so many people clamoring for it so they gave them a movie. I came late as well, only saw the show after the movie was out on DVD, but did watch the show first.

When Mal gives the speech about being the best thing for everyone, have the money back, yada yada ya, only to have the guy tell him to go **** himself and use the money to buy a funeral I thought it was going to be another cookie cutter show where the hero has no flaws. When he kicks him into the engines I almost cheered. Not because I advocate celluloid violence, but because finally here was a guy who did what everyone wants him to do.

It's great that more and more Browncoats are being born every day.

And yes, Fox played the episodes out of order...and I'm told they didn't even play them all. Most of them were broadcast after they announced the series was toast. ****ing TV exec's.
