Thumbs down Sicko

I went into the theatre not expecting too much, but I have to say...

This movie opened my eyes and blew me away. At some points I was in tears-- and I'm a pretty hard-edged kind of guy. And in the end, I am DISGUSTED at paying into the health care scam that persists.

And I will now be moving to Europe within the next few years. I am not joking. (And yes, I'll ship my S2k over there too. )

If you haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it.

(Aside: If you haven't seen "An Inconvenient Truth" you have to see that as well. But this one hits a little closer to home.)

It really does paint a pretty bad picture for the state of healthcare in the US. While I'm sure there's lots of people that do suffer through what was shown in the movie, I'm willing to bet there's just as many people that are perfectly happy with the care they've received here. The system really just doesnt benefit lower income people/families (the folks that need it the most).

it's not that easy to just up and move to europe, is it? how does immigration work in the EU? i think i read it was relatively easy for citizens of EU countries to move around to other EU countries and find employment, but not for non-EU people.

Moore is an idiot for even comparing our healthcare to Cuba's! What Cuba won't show him or anybody for that matter, are the treatments and care they give the common people, basically EVERYBODY in Cuba who isn't working for Castro

I'm all about finding a little place in the middle of nowhere in Italy.

never said it was easy, but it's far from impossible. nothing worth doing is ever easy.

I like some of Moore's work, but don't be too easily led. There are two sides to everything and he only shows one and edits to make it look as bad as it possibly can look. While that makes for a more entertaining film, it does not always give the clearest picture.

I like his movies and have also seen an inconvienient truth and enjoyed that as well. But I do have to say that both of them are so far to one side in their film making I would take none of it as gospel.

I am supposed to see Sicko next week with some friends.

There is a big thread on Sicko in the politics and current events forum. A lot of people have weighed in on the political aspects, if you're interested

Heard MM is being served with a subpoena by Bush administration. Haven't seen this movie yet but I heard it was pretty good.
