If it took this movie to open up your eyes about healthcare in the US. Then most probably you don't have healthcare coverage.

If it takes me pointing out that I do have healthcare coverage, but I haven't yet been sick enough to need it... then most probably your deductive reasoning is pretty flawed.

And I'm the stupid one?????? Ok.
ANyone that needs a movie to tell them that healthcare in the US is terrible shouldn't be living here anyway.
On another note I think that Michael Moore is an idiot. Just look how he "edited" the interviews of some of teh soldier's in his 9/11 documentary.

while I'm quite liberal myself and have enjoyed many of Moore's films, I would take EVERYTHING he says with a grain of salt. I applaud Moore for bringing attention to the flaws of our healthcare system. BUT...Moore is extremely one-sided and uses every technique in the book to appeal to your non-rational/emotional side. In Farenheit 911, for example, the scene where he shows Bush sitting in the classroom and "not doing anything" after being told about the world trade incident really pissed me off. While showing this scene Moore talks about how idiotic Bush is for not jumping up out of his seat and doing something. But really, what was Bush supposed to do that would have made a difference? This scene is a prime example of how Moore manipulates the audience. If you're a Bush hater, Moore knows that this scene will rile you up and make you hate Bush. Things like this pissed me off...and I don't even like Bush or agree with the war. If you disagree with how this country operates, why not take a stand and actually do something rather than saying that you want to run off to Europe? I've lived in Europe and it's great, but they have their fair share of problems as well. The grass is always greener on the other side I suppose....
Reviving this thread because I just watched Sicko...it's available On Demand through my cable company.
I have always had health insurance and haven't often been denied coverage for my illnesses, but I do pay a very high premium.
While I understand that MM uses "tactics" to make you see his side of things, some of us probably have health insurance horror stories like those families he featured in this film.
My parents are rich...and it's a good thing, too. My father had quadruple bypass surgery after a heart attack, and my mother had breast and rectal cancer, all within about 10 years.
During my mother's second cancer treatment, her health insurance sent her a letter telling her that she had "surpassed her lifetime prescription eligibility," and that she would have to pay out of pocket from that point forward. WTF???
Yeah, thank God my parents are rich...otherwise the insurance companies would have either killed them from denial of treatment or put them into bankruptcy.
I don't think MM was lying too much in this film!
P.S. Also during that second cancer, the insurance company would not pay for my mother to stay in the hospital overnight while getting daily blood transfusions. I visited during that time, and found her yellow and gray in the middle of her bed. I freaked out, and yelled at the rest of my family for not doing something. They took her to the hospital, where they immediately put her into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A nurse told my sister that she probably would have died within days had she not been brought back in...and you can be damned sure the insurance companies would have been to blame for her death!
