Well I ended up going and seeing the movie tonite with my gf...We both thought it was a very suspencefull movie and well put togeather...but the end did kinda leave you saying "uhhh...ohh its over ". I expected the ending to be more in depth...Movies these day's usually go into deep detail of how this happens..what happens then and so on...This one just left you with a germ in a waterdrop ..It was a great movie over all...Kept me on my toes and was very entertaining..I will buy it on dvd when it comes out

Ohh yeah...We saw "the longest yard" the night before and it was GREAT!..I LOVE IT...its one of the few times where Adam sandler doesnt play a helpless retard (I love his old movies too..you know what I mean ) I thought it was great

Gawdamnit gawdamnit!!! The ending.. the ending... That's how the story ends. The DVD will hopefully have some added footage so you folks who are complaining about the end will have your 2.5hr movie.

i think it sucked...

i was expecting ID4, but i got Signs, instead of water, it bacteria... Signs and War had silly ending... if you were an alien race try to conquer a world, and your allergic to Water, would you pick earth... go figure these aliens never thought of vacinating them selves!!! if they were going with the bacteria bit from the original movie, at least make it something like a chemical weapon the inferior human race developed.

plus, the kid should have died...

why was the wife's parent's house intacted? to much stuff didn't go together in this movie... yes it's sci-fi, but be a little more beliveble, like ID4.

This movie sucks

Its funny, I think George Lucas and Steven Speilberg think they can make movies like they did in the 1970s and 1980s and make millions of dollars (yes they still will but not as much as they could be making)but its 2005 and IMO they still have that young director blood from the 70s and 80s. IMO a up to par 2000 movie would be the Lord of the Rings The Return of the King. Star Wars Episode 3 cant even compare IMO and War of the Worlds isnt even in the same league. Thats how I see it. With War of the Worlds, they should have got the president and more leaders of other countries involved like they did in ID4. Just my opinion. Star Wars episode 3 lacked so much that I wont even comment. I mean both of these movies were ok but not award winners.
i think that has been done pretty much every alien invasion movies that is out...like ie. 20 of them. <~~just a guess.

i think it was different in this movie.

The whole point of the story is that it takes place from the POV of a common man. The aliens are an unstoppable destructive force, with which there is no reasoning or bargaining. They just come in and destroy, and we see the effects they have through the eyes of our common-man protagonist.

And in the end, the humans still don't actually defeat the aliens. The Earth itself fights them off.

If you changed the ending, or if you told it from the POV of the President of the USA, or if you made it like ID4, then you would be telling a completely different story.

Nobody goes to see Romeo and Juliet and complains that he thought they shouldn't have died in the end or that Juliet should have married Paris or whatever. This book was written in 1898! It's not like the plot should have come as a surprise to anyone....

I liked it alot! Thought it played very true to the original, while giving enough of a 20th century update.

As for you that hate the ending, that was the way it was written. For all of their technology and planning, it was the simplest things on earth that killed them. I think that is irony?! And the Aliens were NOT allergic to water, but the microbes that get us sick killed them! Read the book, and then enjoy what Spielberg did!!

What, so no one noticed those teeth??? I mean come on, that was the scariest part of the whole movie. Cheers.

Exhibit A. Braces...

Kidding aside, I agree with Mike Garrison about the whole point of the movie. However, the ending was horrible. Not because of what killed the aliens, but the sappy and ridiculous way of how everyone made it out just fine and dandy. It had great special effects and was redeeming in that sense but the ending was a copout.
