I hope that situation is never repeated! Everyone, please drive safely out on the Dragon this year. Maybe give some thought to keeping it a comfortable pace for your skill level.

yup that was poor Cortez, he was stuck behind a slow moving car that finally pulled over, so he start to speed up but after a left turn the road dips quite sharply and he was still speeding up so the car hopped the dip and went off the road

I was talking to Ron Johnson (co-owner of Tailofthedragon.com) while he was taking the pictures... to quote: "wasn't the first, won't be the last... and it's never a good thing"

That would be the area commonly known as "the bowl" or "gravity cavity" If you pull over there you can get some very interesting tire mark pictures. The road is going uphill on a slight left hand turn (that's what gets you in trouble, cause you're going fast), then the road just DROPS and shoots HARD to the right. You can stand there and look at the tire marks just shooting straight off into the mountain. I've known quite a few biker friends that have bit it there. It's a pretty "famous" spot so to say!
