I'm looking to take the S on a trip and I was searching for some roads to have some fun on.

Has anyone ever heard of this road or ridden it? If anyone has, would you recommend it?

Route 16 in Virginia between Tazewell and Marion.

Heading down to Charlotte in a few weeks... wonder if Kathy would mind taking a 1 1/2 hour side trip?

Checked the road out on Google and it is 3 hours from Alcoa. Called them and spoke to Larry who described this fantastic road that traverses 3 mountains. They are just developing the area and the State will officially designate the road as "Back of the Dragon" next month. The speed limit is 55mph for most of the route but it is a challenge to maintain throughout. Very few access roads is another plus. Larry said he could set up discount rates at General Francis Marion Hotel. Sounds like an excellent option for an extra drive. It is 32 miles one way from Marion to Tazewell hence the logo statement "eleven....try thirty-two" which is a jab at the eleven mile Tail of the Dragon.

I've been to both towns but don't remember driving that road. I just mapped out a drive though that adds more twisties and removes the last little bit of the route that goes to Marion and goes instead to Saltville. From Saltville there are a number of places you can go. Mike, see if you can set up a discount rate for early July at the Francis Marion. I'll lay out the drive (and find someplace to eat).
