I've had this mount since Aug (I got the info from Meat, Greg, and TheGeneral).
Yes, the lid thing is kinda annoying. My camera is really small and it had a lot of space between the two. So I just use a couple rubber bands to hold the lid against the rubber eyepiece on the camera and hook the ends onto the mount and around the lid. I might come up with something better later, but for now it works fine and it's easy.
The things that are problematic with any camera setup are rattling and wind noise. I've found that taping half of the mic areas cuts down on the wind noise quite a bit. The rattling can come from the camera mount if not tight, or the strap, or the lens cap, or the battery. My large battery bounces a little bit, but the small 1hr one is fine. I'm gonna get a car kit soon anyways.
