Speaking of Mitsu... looks like they are about to pull out of the US market. They stated that if the upcoming redsign of the Outlander and Lancer didn't revive the company the are pulling out of the US market. The Eclipse is basically another dud. They sold just over 1/3 of the cars they did 3 years ago and that was down from three years earlier.
If that happens, who will service all of them in the US? I rememebbr when this happened to Deawoo and I haven't seen ANY of those cars on the road in the past year or two.

I'm honestly not too familiar with the Mitsubishi company - my previous beater was a 02' 4Runner that I used to haul parts. Originally I purchased it to tow my S2000. However, once I moved in with Alex (Poindexter) we purchased a condo with no room for a trailor. Once we did that, I started looking at all wheel drive turbo vehicles, the Evo & the STi came to mind.
I started leaning towards the STi, due to hearing exactly what you said. A lot of friends who are active in the Mitsubishi World have told me that Mitsubishi sales have been very slim over the past few years. They stated that if sales did not pick up, they could be leaving the United States for good. Not too sure how things are going, however visiting the local dealership for warranty work, the sales side does not look too promising.
However, we traded in this White Evo 8 with just over 22k miles for a great price - I couldn't turn it down!
Due to a franchise agreement - if production does stop in the United States there must be a place to purchase parts and have service done for the following 8 years. However, access to parts does include ordering parts from Japan.

As for service, getting Evos serviced won't be hard, there are plenty of places that do it better than the incompetent stealerships. Everything else? SOL.

I definitely agree with you on that. The one thing that I do like about the Evo, it takes absolutely no skill to drive this car. You can pretty much go into just about any turn at any speed and whip right through it, unlike the S2000 where you have to have some level of skill to ensure you don't slide out of control. Then again, the downside is the same - it takes no input, the car takes care of everything for you. Every now and again it's fun to get a bit squirley, as long as it's not too out of control!
There is an "evo is the best handling car ever crowd" that simply doesn't understand that most exceptional handling vehicles (S2000, Boxster S, C6 vette, 911, etc) require a great deal of skill to extract all that capability; they equate the Evo's behavior as awesome handling (which, if you drive the car at about 8/10, it is awesome). They deny it understeers horrendously near the limit, and has some other issues with F/R balance.

Well, that's the goal! But then again, the last one I attended was WTD 05' and planned to be rather drunk the entire time. I was sober all weekend, did enjoy taking a shot at the dinner though. I'll have to bring that shot glass back this year!
factor, even though I was sober for all of WTD '06...
I have a couple quad shot glasses. I'll bring 'em.

Try explaining that to the Evo loyalists.

I haven't had too many understeering issue's, however it could be due to the fact that I am still testing the vehicles limits. Right now I am a bit hesitant to push it too far as I am still awaiting to get an alignment done after the recent spring install. On top of that, these tires are pooh.
