Lee.... I understand its somebody's birthday this week....

Any ideas who that might be?

Maybe we need to get on a conference call and sing to them?
Hmmmmmm?
Maybe instead of a call, the person you are referring to would like some Knob Creek. Just a wild guess.

If that certain someone had been able to make it to Back of the Dragon, he would have more than "some" Knob Creek.

Well, crap! this is a fine mess. I go on vacation, don't check the boards, and now my entire Dragon enthusiast life has just been rearranged.

I have to get something off my chest and then I'll quitely go away. Raul is my friend! I really care about him, his family and HIS EVENT. He was the guy who reached out and made me feel welcome. He was the guy who put the team together and made it work. He was also the guy who put up with a bunch people who seemed to always surface at every single event "griping" about how they would have done it "better". He was the guy who reached out and pulled others into adding to the event.

I really think that until last year, when a group of "independents" revolted and "moved" the DBR event site that resulted in RAUL taking a black eye (figuratively speaking) from the folks at Tapoco, he would have kept on, keeping on. I know that's "water over the dam" so to speak, but I bet it figured heavily into Raul's late cancel of this event. I suspect something of the same thing was happening again this year. If so, shame on those who have undermined one of the best events in the S2K community.

As for me, well, I was hoping to have a week in Sept to go to the Dragon. I may, or may not depending on my own independant needs wishes and desires. Their are some people in this community that I really enjoy being around, and others that I could just as soon do without. I know that sounds harsh, but I have worked organizing the Poker Run events for WTD. The last Poker Run I organized had a $1200 investment upfront, and "little things" like this kill participation and leave the organizer high and dry.

Now thats off my chest, my best wishes to Ken and those who are trying to resusitate the event. I don't care what you call it. As for next spring, well, mayby. I will look at the event, the organizers, the time, and the location and decide to go, or not.

Mike, I appreciate your feelings about the event, and I still would like to run with the Ohio crew if I go to "Whatever It's Called" event.

Rooms are blocked, date is set, food is planned. Now we just need to get the first one out of the way so the planning can start in earnest for the "big" one. I agree with a lot of what you said, Dave. Raul is a close friend but I don't think Tapoco or any other Dragon related event had anything to do with him pulling the plug. I think after 12 years he felt he'd done everything possible and was ready to move on. Just as others decided to go in other directions, I believe that's what he did. I personally gave him an open invitation to come to any (or all) of the events I organize (or help organize). I also personally thanked him for all of the hard work and promised that any event I was a part of organizing would stay as close as possible to the great things he's done.
Incidentally, I'd be honored if you'd organize the Poker Run once again. You've always done an excellent job with organizing it and making it fun for everyone.

Talking about rooms being "blocked"- I have mine in the main lodge. It will serve as the "safe house" during the event
