GOOD LORD!? birthday 1991?! i thought you meant new S driver, not brand spankin' new driver.

just keep in mind that the Dragon is one of the more technical roads out there. a second of distraction is all that is needed to put you into the woods (and down or into a cliff). a new driver should be able to manage it, if they are cautious, attentive, and conservative.
however, if you were my kid, you wouldn't be out there w/o me.

and you CAN do the Dragon in a mini-van. i did it and have the proof.

more Dragon footage - this one is from the SouthEastern Super Meet 2006. Dragon footage is about 4:45 into the vid (including me briefly slipping across the double yellow. )

Sweet!

Group driving situations tend to get people's adrenaline up and make them want to push the car harder. If you can avoid that trap (unlike me, and pretty much everyone I knew at the time when I was 15-16 to well, I'll let you know if it ever subsides) and you stay within your limits, you will be fine.

My advice is to take the Dragon into Fontana, nice and easy (you will be packed with your luggage and what not anyway) then enjoy some of the other roads in the area. The skyway is fun, but not nearly as technical or as dangerous as the dragon. It's still dangerous, but not AS dangerous.
