Ouch ... $5.00 a picture? I know you gotta make a living, but I thought maybe there'd be a flat price to get a bunch of pics put on a CD.

I'm gonna stick to my own pictures. Maybe next year I'll sit on the side of the road like Killboy and take some pics for everyone .. but my pics would be free

I do tend to go over the lines when there are people on the shoulder, to give them space.... The Killboy group was on the right shoulder, so I put my car more towards the center line of the road and away from the people on the shoulder.

Hey go for it buddy! We love what we do, and appreciate all those who send us their business and compliments, but think about what goes into this: We give up our whole weekend every weekend to sit in the sun/rain/bugs watching everyone else have fun, taking thousands of shots with thousands of dollars worth of camera gear. Then Lori and I spend all week sorting the shots one-by-one, uploading, and filling orders. (and forget benefits like health/dental) This is all we do...and it's more hours of work than most full-time jobs. There's a reason many event photographers won't even sell the digital originals, let alone let them go for less than $30 each - because that's the negative...you're not spending any more money on that shot. But yeah, $5 a shot...that's crazy.

And package deals at the Gap are not practical. Imagine some guy on a black Harley ordering "All Photos" of his bike. Can you grasp how time consuming it would be to dig out all of his shots among the thousands of cruiser shots? Then multiply that by 100+ orders per week. Plus there's the issue of splitting the profits between my partners...who gets what percentage of the profit? What if one guy shot more or less than the others? The way it is now, everyone gets a flat fee per shot sold...encouragement to shoot well and shoot often.

Not the first time this "logic" has been used. Fully aware that some people will blame anything in sight for their own mistakes, including us, we stay as far off the road as the area will permit, and use strong zoom lenses. (300-350mm) I've measured the distance from where we sit to the edge of the road shoulder. In the case of these two photos, we're over 15 feet from the shoulder. First shot is David on the picnic tables at mile marker 7, about 40-45 feet from the road. Second shot is Keith at "Mud Corner", just a half-mile south and about 15 feet from the edge.

In the drivers' defense, they are both at the exit of the turn where you can see if it is clear. The only real problem we all have to deal with, is people entering a blind turn in the wrong lane. But it's a bad habit in general and I'm aware that self-criticizm is a strong deterrant, so we expect the shots in the store to speak for themselves and let a lot more slide than most people realize.

Sometimes there is a crowd were we are, sometimes there are crowds at lots of other places. I don't feel the solution is to drive in the wrong lane, maybe just slow down until you get by? Your pictures will still look great.

Go right ahead and give up your weekend! In the meantime, I choose to support killboy and what they do. I think it's fantastic for them to be out there doing this. It's kind of like the autocross at the Nor'Easter event coming up.

We don't have to work the corners = more seat time!

Keep up the great work guys, my girlfriend just informed me that I'm not allowed to buy any until after my birthday but you better beleive I have all my shots bookmarked!

I have to comment on the double-yellow thing too. I'm not trying to justify my actions or blame it on you all... but I sure got startled the first time I came around the corner and saw 2 or 3 of you with the big banners and such...

Thanks e3, they'll be there when you're ready.

Bringing up another practice most photographers don't allow - no deadline ordering. Most rush you to order before you forget by taking shots offline after a set amount of time. Our shots stay online indefinitely so you can get your finances in order and spend more!

And yeah sorry to startle you, we do try to get in places where you can see us coming and we don't "pop up" on you, but there is also the concern of people trying too hard to show off if they see us from too far away. Not a lot of places to shoot safely from out there really.

No worries... I'm glad you do what you do, and I know you've been doing it long enough to do it the right way.
