Default My tale of the tail, update & acknowledgements

I finally decided to return from my hiatus to say a few things about the Dragon and to update everyone.

I don't have anything to add about the crash. The wonderful S2K Paparazzi left no detail uncovered. You all have seen the pics and read the accounts. SuzukaSue your yarn brought a smile to my lips and a hearty chuckle to my gut. Quite imagitative I must say. All I can say about the wreck is "$H!T H@ppen$!" My first crash in over twenty years. I shall surely have to change my signature now.

How am I? OK. I was in shock following the wreck. Sunday and Monday especially. I didn't feel the need to be checked out by a doctor. I was sore in many places. I'm not sure how fast I was going when I left the roadway and was stopped by one of the Dragons' scales but the sudden stop slammed me forward and caused a blood vessel in my left eye to rupture. That's fairly common in those types of incidents. The bridge of my nose is still sore. (I don't think it's broke) My chest and ribs still ache a little. Mostly my pride is hurt.

I didn't want to let another day go by without expressing my sincerest thanks and gratitude to the many friends who were there providing support and encouragement during a difficult experience. To all the Atlanta group who huddled around me. And to the new friends met on the trip - thank you.

I especially want to express appreciation to the following people:

sumir brahmbhatt - Thanks for loading up my stuff and giving me a ride back down to Deals Gap.

spaS2000 - Kudos to Keith for sacrificing his afternoon ride with the rest of the group to stay behind with me while the phone calls were made to report the wreck, and contact the tow truck. I couldn't have done it without your help buddy. Thanks for everything.

johnyboy32 - I appreciate very much you helping to bring some of my stuff back to Atlanta. Also the tips and information going forward will come in handy. Sorry you guys got caught in the rain with the top down before we got to Mark's house. That sucked.

Lastly I want to express my deepest thanks to Hi Ho Silver for bringing me back to Atlanta and all the way home to Covington. Thanks Mark for going the extra miles following the long drive back from Knoxville. It was good company and a great drive back.

I'm indebted to you all.

Now for an update on my car. I was contacted early this morning by the collision center and informed that there is only $11K damage to the vehicle. It will not be totaled. This is unfortunate. There is frame damage as well. The estimator told me that they may find some incidential things to add but he did not expect that it would double the estimate and therefore place it in the totaled category. It will be approximately 7-8 weeks before it is ready. Maybe sooner maybe longer. It is however, a top-rated shop with state-of-the-art equipment. They have serviced many dealer autos including many porsches and other exotic cars blah, blah, blah. I'm just mouthing off here.

I'm not sure what I will do. Eight weeks. Maybe I'll take a loss and trade it for an 2002 model. I miss my car. I guess I'll have to settle for GT3 and drive the stook on my large screen TV. If I crash there it doesn't hurt.

The bright side is I now have time to paint my garage.

p.s. If you don't reply to this thread I'll understand. I'm a thread killer and this thread may self-destruct.

Hi Cortez! Good to hear from you. I am glad you are ok and that my little fable was able to make you laugh! Take care of yourself and let me know if you decide to get MY2002....perhaps you and I can drive our two blues in tandem on the Dragon!

PS - I am gonna go slow!

You da man, Cortez. Glad you are back.

Me personally I would seriously look into trading it in for a 2002. Frame damage on a sports car is like a bad back on a human. You'll know it and feel it for a long time.

Glad you are OK! That is the important thing!

Hey Cortez, glad you have pulled through this with only your pride damaged. It could have been much worse if you had gone off the outside of a turn. But look on the bright side, soon you will be back in the saddle and challenging those twisties once again. And who knows, maybe in a 2002.

p.s.: You weren't able to kill this thread!

Yeah you're right. Thanks one thing I meant to mention. I was very fortunate. This could have been much much worse. It happened so quick. That's why there are no skid marks. Had anyone been coming from the other direction it would have spelled disaster for them. If... You can always second guess everything.

Hey! Maybe if I reply to my own thread I'll kill it! Check out the new sig.
