I just confirmed; the gas tanks at the Smoky Mountain Hwy 129 Harley-Davidson store (formerly the Tallassee store) on Hwy 129 about 5 miles north of the Dragon were removed yesterday. The lady at the store said the tanks belonged to the state and not to the store and they came and removed them. (I have no idea why).

You may need to consider this with the planning of group drives, etc. Too bad, really. That was a great gas-up and staging area.

EVERYBODY! Please fill up in Robinsville or Deals Gap/Fontana gas stations Friday afternoon/evening! If you're on the Hilltops & Hollers drive with me, we can fuel up in Maryville before returning to the Dragon.

 

Yes yes! And the skyway group, there will be a fuel stop before we head towards Tellico Plains.

Always fill up when you have a chance.....

If the group you are with stops for gas....

Even tho you only need a 1/2 tank.... fill it up!

 

I always have gas when we stop.

 

They are definitely gone. We came through yesterday around 2:00pm and there was a lot of empty space where the gas pumps used to live.

 

That really sucks. It was a fantastic spot. Tell me the state wasn't making money off those pumps?? Ugh.

 

So... Are we still splitting into groups at the store?

 

I wonder if the USTs were out of spec and the store didn't want to pay to have new ones installed.

 

Id say yes. The Harley Store is still a great pitstop for restrooms/water/stuff, and the parking lot across the way is great for staging to roll out.
